Easy Elderberry Syrup Recipe

Immune Boosting Elderberry Syrup - Easy Herbalism

Elderberry Syrup Recipe Easy

Elderberry Cordial is a favorite folk healing tradition to boost immunity during the winter months. It's great because it can be made with or without Brandy. Without the Brandy, it's called Elderberry Syrup.

They say a shot a day will keep the doctor away. This also makes for a great gift.

Don't worry. We won't make you read my life's story before you get to the Elderberry Cordial Recipe.

What You'll Need |

+ 4 Cups Cold Water

+ 2 Cups Dried Elderberry

+ A 2 Inch Chunk of Fresh Ginger (peeled and chopped)

+ A Cinnamon Stick or 2

+ 1/2 Cup of Honey (I like raw or orange blossom infused or saffron honey, but any local good quality honey will work)

+ 1 Cup of Brandy (or not)

+ A Pot

+ A Strainer (I use a muslin cloth)

+ A Pitcher or A Container to Store The Syrup In

LET'S DO THIS

Grab your big pot and add the water, elderberry, cinnamon sticks, and ginger.

Bring to just a boil and then reduce the heat. Let it simmer for about 45 minutes.

Strain (I use a flour sack cloth). When you're straining the mixture -- think of this like liquid gold. This mixture is full of antioxidants that are great for your body and skin. This is why I use a flour sack cloth -- yes-- it will stain, but you can use your hands to squeeze out every drop. You worked hard for it; you should have it.

Put back in the pot and allow to cool for a bit. Add Honey & Brandy (optional).

Bottle and store in the refrigerator.

CONTRAINDICATIONS: People who have an allergy to elder pollen might react to elderberry supplements. If you have diabetes, multiple sclerosis, lupus, or rheumatoid arthritis, talk to your doctor before taking elderberry.
